One of the most powerful features of WooCommerce Serial Numbers is the automatic serial number generation. To automatically generate serial numbers and assign them with orders you need to select Auto-Generated Serial Number from the product meta section.
Let’s learn how the Automatic Serial Number Generation works-
First of all, from the product meta section, select Serial Numbers.

Secondly, from the Serial Key Source, you will find three distinctive options.
- Manually Generated Serial Number
- Generator Rule
- Auto Generated Serial Number

Select the Auto-Generated Serial Number as the Serial Key Source. There are a few other options that needs to be taken care of. Set a License key prefix. For example, we have selected Auto as our License Key Prefix. Next, you need to select the Activation Limit and Validation. Moreover, for software, there is an option to set version numbers. You can keep it blank for other products. Finally, you need to update the product.

You are all set. Now when there is a new order for this product a new serial number will be created and assigned with the order. Note: the Auto-Generated Serial Numbers are random alphanumeric string. If you want control over the string length, try the Generator from the Serial Number meta section.

The Serial Number will be displayed on the order confirmation page once the order is completed.
